Maria C. Eich w/mug
Maria C. Eich, 48, of St. Thomas, a retailer and avid music lover, died June 23 in Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Fla.
Born Maria Carrio in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Mrs. Eich moved to Staten Island, N.Y., in 1968 when she was 4 years old.
She was a graduate of Port Richmond High School. Mrs. Eich received her associates degree in liberal arts from St. John's University, Grymes Hil, Staten Island.
Music played a huge role in Mrs. Eich's life. During her time on Staten Island, she was the singer and songwriter for the band Freudian Slip, alongside her husband of nearly 30 years, Robert J. The band played throughout the Island and the Tri-state area.
"She was a great inspiration to a lot of people," said her husband.
Mrs. Eich moved to St. Thomas almost 20 years ago with her husband, and she worked as owner-retailer at Rhiannon's Unique Gifts, in American Yacht Harbor, Red Hook, and continued singing and songwriting with her husband in the band MAR.
Even though she did not have children, Maria often acted as mother to all.
In loving memory, this bright light will shine forever.
Along with her husband, Robert J., surviving are her parents, Vicente and Maria Carrio and countless family members in Staten Island, N.Y., Valencia, Spain, and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The Van Orsdel Family Funeral Home, Coral Gables Chapel, in Coral Gables, Fla., is handling the arrangements, which include a memorial service and cremation.
There also will be a memorial party celebrating the life of this wonderful human being on St. Thomas and Staten Island, N.Y., at a date to be determined.
