ST. CROIX - Two brothers appeared side-by-side in V.I. Superior Court on Wednesday morning to be advised of their rights.
Odane Joseph, 22 was arrested on a warrant for disturbance of the peace by threats in connection to an incident Aug. 26, while Dorell Joseph, 32, was arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm after police found a weapon in the men's Harborview Apartment when they were executing the warrant.
In the Aug. 26 incident, police said that while investigating a shooting outside an Estate Diamond Ruby home, a man said that Odane Joseph threatened him. The man told police that during the incident that led to the shooting, someone dropped a gun in the yard and he said wanted it back or he would kill him.
The man told police that following the shooting, he picked up the gun and put it in the yard's decorative wall as he left to check on the victim. When he returned, the firearm was gone.
He said he later received a call on the family's answering machine from a voice identified as Odane Joseph's, who said that if he did not get his gun back he would go to another housing community and get his machine gun and spray up the entire house, killing everyone.
Police secured a warrant to arrest Odane Joseph in connection to the threats and executed the warrant Tuesday. At that time, police said Dorrell Joseph came out of the home armed and was searched by police and arrested.
Bail was set at $1,000 for Odane Joseph and at $10,000 for Dorell Joseph.
Magistrate Jessica Gallivan ordered each of the brothers be released upon the posting 10 percent of the amount of the bail set in each case.
Arraignments for the men have been set for 9 a.m. Oct. 10. At that time, the brothers will be formally charged with the crimes and a calendar call and tentative jury trial date will be set.
