The V.I. Public Works Department is beginning design work to improve Spring Gut Road Route 85 on St. Croix.

An $893,468.69 contract was executed Sept. 24 between the government and Stanley Consultants, Inc., according to a statement issued Monday by Public Works.

A paved two-lane, rural roadway with a bike path will begin at the south junction of Route 62, also known as South Side Road, and extend north about two miles to the existing paved road at the Estate Tulipan Welcome entrance.

Caribbean Land Surveyors and Antillean Engineers Inc. will begin work immediately and surveying will continue through the end of November. Design documents should be complete by the end of 2013.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to John Paul David, Construction Program Manager, Office of Highway Engineering, Department of Public Works, St. Croix, at 773-1290.
