ST. CROIX - The Virgin Islands Joint Board of Elections held its organizational meeting Saturday and made some decisions for its executive body that did not sit well with some members of the community who were in attendance.

The meeting, which lasted less than an hour, had the full participation of its 14 members - seven from St. Croix and seven from the St. Thomas-St. John District.

At the start of the meeting, outgoing board chair Rupert Ross Jr. made a motion calling for the election of the new members.

Wilma Marsh-Monsanto made a motion to nominate St. Croix board chairman Adelbert Bryan for the joint chairmanship, and the motion received a second from Glenn Webster.

However, the motion failed to pass, with 5 for and 8 against; Marsh-Monsanto, Bryan, Webster, Lilliana Belardo de O'Neal and Roland Moolenaar voted in favor.
