ST. THOMAS - A woman told police that a man stole the rental car she was using in just a matter of minutes, while a passenger still was in the car.
No one was injured, and the passenger, a man, got out of the vehicle before it was stolen.
The woman told police that she pulled over her rental car about 2:30 a.m. Sunday so that she could use the bathroom at a business open on Kronprindsens Gade.
She went inside and left the keys to the car in the ignition and left a man waiting in the car, she told police.
When she came out of the bathroom, the car was gone and the man told the woman that a robber with a black handgun had approached him and told him to get out of the car.
When the man did as he was told, the robber got into the car and drove away, heading east.
V.I. Police spokeswoman Melody Rames did not provide a description of what the vehicle looked like or its make or model. The vehicle's license number is TEL-316, she said.
V.I. police issued an all-points bulletin on the car, and the case remains under investigation.
