ST. CROIX - A V.I. Corrections officer was advised of her rights Wednesday morning after being charged in a warrant with attempting to bring a narcotic into Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility.
Isabel Urgent of Campo Rico was arrested just after 3:30 p.m. Monday and charged with attempted introduction of an addicting drug to a correctional facility after authorities there said they found a partially smoked marijuana cigarette and a lighter inside her bra.
Warden Basil Richards said in a sworn affidavit on Dec. 28 that just after midnight on Dec. 20, Urgent arrived for her shift and was found with the contraband.
He said that on Dec. 19 he received a call from another Corrections officer, who said that Urgent was coming to work with marijuana inside a cellular phone.
Richards said he got to the prison before Urgent's shift was scheduled to start and waited for her.
When Urgent came into the prison, Richards questioned her privately. Urgent readily admitted that she had the lighter and marijuana tucked inside her bra, Richards said.
Richards said no other contraband was found on Urgent, but he believed that the items found are enough to sustain the charges.
Urgent remained in custody at Golden Grove until today, when she was advised of her rights and allowed released to a third-party custodian after she signed an unsecured bond in the amount of bail, which had been set at $10,000.
