ST. THOMAS - V.I. police arrested a substitute teacher in connection with a bomb threat made on St. Thomas on Sunday.
Shikeema Lacresa Toussaint, 20, appeared in court Wednesday for an advice-of-rights hearing, in which she learned of her unsecured bond in the amount of $22,500, according to the V.I. Superior Court clerk's office.
Toussaint, who is from St. Thomas, was charged with creating a bomb hoax, though federal authorities are not believed to be involved at this time.
V.I. police responded to a woman's 911 call at 8:46 p.m. Sunday claiming that someone made a bomb threat to the Kon Tiki, a tourist sight-seeing boat.
Police inspected the boat, which was at Tortola Wharf on St. Thomas, prior to its departure, according to court documents.
It was unclear from court documents whether anyone already had boarded the vessel or when its departure was set for the evening. It was also unclear whether Toussaint was supposed to be a passenger.
The Kon Tiki left for its scheduled evening on the water, and when it returned, police again inspected the vessel. The security guard on the vessel said that someone then came up to him and told him that they knew the person who called in the bomb threat, according to court documents.
The person identified Toussaint, who was standing in the midst of several other women near the wharf at the time, according to court documents. Police approached her, asking for her mobile phone.
She provided her phone, though when asked what her number was, she said that she did not know it, according to court documents.
One of the officers called his phone using her phone to identify her number. When it showed up as unknown, he then checked her call record on the phone and saw that she had made a call to 911 at the same time the bomb threat had been reported.
Toussaint was then taken to the dispatch call center and released pending further investigation before police arrested her Monday.
