Building storm expected to bring a lot of rain

ST. CROIX - Forecasters on Thursday anticipated that a tropical wave that could be a cyclone by the time it nears the territory this weekend could bring significant rainfall, with showers starting as soon as this afternoon.
"The Hurricane Center upgraded it to a 70 percent chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 48 hours," Jose Alamo, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in San Juan, said Thursday night of a tropical wave the National Hurricane Center has been watching for several days.
