The local chapter of the American Cancer Society will host its third annual Relay for Life today through Sunday at Winston Wells Ball Field in Cruz Bay, St. John.

The relay will last from 4 p.m. today to 10 a.m. Sunday.

The fundraiser features music, games and contests, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Participants can register today and do not need to have a team to sign up. Registration is $10 for individuals.

Organizer Loren Abramson said 26 teams, each with 15 members, already had signed up. The registration fee for a team is $150, and participants are asked to each raise $100. Last year, the relay raised about $60,000 for the American Cancer Society, according to Abramson.

The survivor's walk is from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. today, and a survivor's dinner is from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Delegate to Congress Donna Christensen will speak at a ceremony honoring cancer survivors at 9 p.m.

Attendees and walkers can buy luminaries for display on the field for $5.

Music from a DJ and the live bands Inner Visions, Paradise People and Ah We Band will accompany walkers from 11 p.m. today to 4 a.m. Sunday.

A $500 prize will be awarded to the winner of a hot wings-eating contest.
