Residents no longer have to obtain lien searches from the Lt. Governor’s Office or shipping clearance forms from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to ship vehicles between St. Croix and St. Thomas.

Vehicle owners only need to present a valid registration to a carrier.

Lt. Gov. Gregory Francis said legislation streamlining the process — Act 7097 — was passed by the 28th Legislature in August.

People transporting vehicles outside the Virgin Islands still are required to obtain lien search letters and shipping clearance forms, Francis said.
