ST. THOMAS - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that the territory experienced a dengue outbreak at the end of last year.

While the CDC study focused on cases in December, the territory has continued to suffer from widespread cases of dengue. In February, after a student and the principal had confirmed cases of dengue, Ricardo Richards Elementary School send out an alert to parents urging them to protect their children with repellent.

According to the CDC report released Thursday, dengue is endemic in the U.S. Virgin Islands, but no outbreaks had been reported since 2005.
