ST. THOMAS - A charter boat returning to the Independent Boat Yard briefly ran aground Monday afternoon off the southeast shore of St. Thomas.
The power boat was returning from a charter trip a little before noon but pulled into Benner Bay the wrong way and ran into a sand bank, according to Glen Millar, the general manager of VIP Yacht Charters, which owns the boat.
"They were bringing it back at the end of the trip and just got things wrong," Millar said.
VIP sent one of its larger boats out to retrieve the grounded vessel and "pulled it right off" within half an hour, Millar said. He said there was no damage to the boat.
Millar attributed the grounding to strong currents pushing the boat toward the shore.
