ST. THOMAS - The territory's four-legged crime-fighters got a major security upgrade Thursday thanks to the donation of K-9 bullet-proof vests.
The seven Kevlar vests, one for each V.I. Police dog in the St. Thomas-St. John District, were donated by Virgin Arms and the Self Defense Initiative.
"It's the same material as human officers wear," Michael Sheesley, of Virgin Arms, said. "These are going to help the community and protect our officers."
