ST. THOMAS - A man and woman were severely burned Thursday evening in a house fire near Fortuna Bay.
The V.I. Fire Service responded to calls of a house fire about 7:20 p.m., according to the V.I. Territorial Emergency Agency's police blotter, which is a record of the time and nature of calls to emergency dispatchers.
Service firefighters found the man and woman, who were transported to Schneider Hospital by ambulance.
"The woman sustained pretty serious burns and so did the man," said Daryl George, assistant director of the Fire Service.
Firefighters from the service's Tango Company responded first with two units, followed by two firefighters from Hotel Company and one from Lima Company.
Firefighters searched the house for any other victims, but no others were found, and no one else aside from the man and woman are believed to reside in the house, George said.
No other structures were burned either.
"Those guys kicked down the fire real quick," George said.
The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation, George said.
