ST. THOMAS - The start of the Senate Finance Committee's budget overview hearing Friday began on a hopeful note: The money to pay out the rest of the 2010 tax refunds should be available by September if not sooner, according to the governor's financial team.

At the hearing, V.I. Finance Commissioner Angel Dawson Jr. said that for the last month and a half, the department has been cutting refund checks totalling about $2.5 million every other week. The government has been paying out the refunds in the weeks in between the government's pay weeks, he said.
