Governor orders budgets slashed by 5 percent, extends hiring freeze to close $50 million gap

ST. THOMAS - To help close the $50 million budget shortfall for Fiscal Year 2013, Gov. John deJongh Jr. has authorized a more restrictive hiring freeze and a 5 percent budget cut for all central government agencies.
DeJongh initially implemented a hiring freeze in May 2008, only permitting critical vacancies to be filled.
