Ira Mills named V.I. tax assessor

ST. THOMAS - Lt. Gov. Gregory Francis has appointed Ira Mills, who previously had served as the director of Business and Finance Management in the Lt. Governor's Office since 2011, as Tax Assessor of the Virgin Islands.
Before joining the Lt. Governor's Office, Mills worked as chief financial officer at the V.I. Housing Authority, and he was the director of the V.I. Office of Management and Budget under Gov. Charles Turnbull.
Mills is a graduate of the University of the Virgin Islands with a bachelor's degree in business administration, and he received his masters of business administration in finance from the University of Cincinnati.
Mills' training in property assessment includes courses in uniform standards of professional appraisal practice, real property appraisal, income approach to valuation and fundamentals of mass appraisal, according to a statement issued Wednesday by Government House. Mills also has completed all courses toward residential appraisal designation, according to the release.
