Long-time St. Thomas painter leaving but wants art to stay 'where it belongs'

After 20 years of painting scenes of island life on St. Thomas, Diane Kreiner is selling the remainder of her collection this weekend in preparation for moving to Georgia to receive treatment for lung cancer. A show titled "Farewell to St. Thomas" will feature 80 paintings, watercolors and prints by Kreiner at the former Social Security Administration offices in Nisky Center Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
ST. THOMAS - Diane Kreiner's lung cancer has forced her to leave St. Thomas after 48 years, but she wants to make sure her artistic legacy remains here with the sale of about 80 paintings, watercolors and prints in a retrospective show this weekend: "Farewell to St. Thomas."
Kreiner said she wanted to sell the paintings locally; because they are steeped in her experiences of living on St. Thomas, they "belonged" in the islands that inspired them.
