ST. THOMAS - A 22-year-old man became the fifth murder victim this year in the territory on Friday morning after a shooting the night before.

Kishawn Doyling died about 2:45 a.m. at Schneider Hospital, though V.I. police did not release information his death until about 10:30 p.m. Friday.

Doyling's murder marks the fifth in the territory in just 25 days - about one every five days.

Doyling told police before he died that he had been in the vehicle of his friend, who also was wounded, when they heard shots fired.

They were in the area of Mahogany Run, though neither Doyling nor his friend saw who fired the shots, according to V.I. Police Department spokeswoman Melody Rames.

They told police they saw no suspicious activity prior to the shooting, police said.

Rames did not say what condition Doyling's 20-year-old friend was in, or whether he still was in the hospital. The friend suffered at least two gunshots to one or both of his legs and one gunshot to the left side of his chest, she said.

Doyling was shot once in the left side of his abdomen, according to Rames.

Already this month, three other men died after they were shot - two on St. Croix and one on St. Thomas. A fourth man died on St. John last week after suffering what appeared to be puncture wounds to his neck.

Anyone with information about the shooting can contact detectives at 714-9834, 715-5522 or 911 or call the territory's anonymous tip line, Crimes Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
