ST. CROIX - A 33-year-old man still was recovering Monday from multiple gunshot wounds sustained when he was shot early Sunday morning.

According to the police blotter, a list of calls made to emergency dispatchers, a call came in at 2:49 a.m. Sunday reporting a gunshot victim at Luis Hospital.

Although the shooting was reported from the hospital, police said the man was shot near a Christiansted bar.

When police officers and detectives went to Luis Hospital the victim was undergoing surgery, and medical personnel told police that the victim walked into the emergency room suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and asked for help, according to V.I. Police spokeswoman Melody Rames.

The case was turned over to Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives, who are investigating what has been classified as a first-degree assault, according to Rames.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call detectives at 712-6037, 712-6077 or call the confidential tip line at Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-8477.
