Man shot in leg on Back Street walks to hospital

ST. THOMAS - Police on St. Thomas are investigating a third-degree assault on Back Street on Wednesday morning in which a man who was shot in the leg walked to Schneider Hospital for treatment.

Police were called to the hospital just before 9 a.m. Wednesday to interview the victim, who told officers he was walking east on Back Street in the area of the old Red Snapper Restaurant when he heard people arguing and then heard several gunshots.

The victim said he was shot in the leg and walked to the hospital.

According to the preliminary report, police believe that the victim, who appears to be homeless, was shot by stray bullets.

The victim was treated by medical staff for two gunshots to his left leg.

The case is being followed up by the criminal investigation bureau detectives, and anyone with information can call detectives at 712-6077, 712-6037 or 911 or call the Crime Stoppers USVI anonymous tip line at 1-800-222-8477.
