ST. THOMAS - Police on St. John arrested a man they said was fleeing the territory because he was wanted on a weapons charge.
Police arrested Kamal Hendricks, 28, of St. John about 3:10 p.m. Wednesday and charged him with illegally discharging a firearm; possession of an unlicensed firearm; first-degree reckless endangerment; and interfering with an officer.
Officers detained Hendricks at King Airport on St. Thomas.
According to police, Hendricks was at a bar in Suzannaberg on St. John on March 1 and became involved in an altercation with another person. Hendricks brandished a weapon and fired it at least six times, police said.
No one was injured, and officers pursued Hendricks, who fled in a vehicle and threw a weapon out of the car, police said.
Hendricks then abandoned the car and fled on foot, and officers recovered the weapon and a number of spent shell casings, according to police.
U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officers detained Hendricks at King Airport after the V.I. Police Department issued an all-points bulletin for him.
Hendricks was placed on a $60,500 bail and remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
