ST. CROIX - Police have released information surrounding the shooting of a man early Tuesday evening.
V.I. Police spokeswoman Melody Rames said Thursday that police still are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident that was reported to police at 6:47 p.m.
Officers were dispatched to the scene in the Work and Rest area and found a man who appeared to be injured, laying on the ground, Rames said. The officers said the man was bleeding, and they saw a knife and a spent shotgun shell on the ground close to him, according to Rames.
Additional investigation by police determined that the injured man was armed with a knife and was arguing with another man, who was armed with a shotgun, Rames said. During the course of the altercation, the second man fired a shot, striking the knife-wielding man in his foot, and fled, according to Rames.
The injured man was treated at Luis Hospital for a single gunshot wound to his foot and later released.
Rames said the case is being followed up by Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives, but as of Thursday evening, no arrest had been made in the case, which has been classified as a first-degree assault.
