While most local government offices and operations except emergency services will be closed today, almost everything will be open for business on Friday.
In addition to the local government, the U.S. Post Office, federal courts, banks and a majority of private-sector businesses - excepting restaurants and some grocery stores - will be closed for Thanksgiving.
Emergency services - like the V.I. Police Department, the V.I. Fire Service, and Emergency Medical Services - will be working, said V.I. Government House spokesman Jean Greaux.
All executive branch operations were scheduled to resume Friday at normal business hours, except the public schools, which will remain closed until Monday, Greaux said.
All courts operations, with the exception of advice-of-rights hearings, also will be closed until Monday. Advice of rights will take place Friday morning in V.I. Superior Court.
The U.S. District Court and V.I. Supreme Court also will be closed Friday.
The V.I. Waste Management Authority said its landfills and transfer stations are scheduled to operate on reduced hours today. On St. Croix and St. Thomas, hours will be from 6 a.m. to noon. On St. John, hours will be from 8 a.m. to noon.
All Waste Management operations will resume their normal hours Friday.
