The V.I. Tourism Department will be making a new commercial using Pressure Busspipe's latest single, "Virgin Islands Nice," and featuring local talent.

Casting begins this weekend, with open auditions on St. John and St. Thomas on Saturday and on St. Croix on Sunday.

"We are looking for really a variety," said Ingrid Ott-Zucker, of the production company TellTale-Pictures. "We want a good cross section. All ethnicities, from baby to 80 years old."

Telltale-Pictures is casting for the commercial, which will be filmed on St. John, St. Thomas and St. Croix the last week of March.

The commercial will feature a 30-second version of "Virgin Islands Nice." It is being produced in the Virgin Islands, directed by Eric Zucker, and it will form part of a national television ad campaign.

Tourism Commissioner Beverly Nicholson-Doty said the "Virgin Islands Nice" concept will be used to promote special travel packages as well as a social media campaign.

The summer travel promotion will feature "Nice Packages," highlighting certain types of getaways, such as romance and weddings, diving vacations, and historic and cultural travel.

The social media campaign will be a way to get feedback from visitors who can post their "nice" experiences for a chance to win prizes. If specific Virgin Islanders or local businesses - taxi drivers, hotel workers, tour operators, restaurants - are praised, they will also be acknowledged and rewarded.

Ott-Zucker would not give away the creative details of the commercial, but she said they will be looking for two people to act as a "tourist couple" as well as a lot of Virgin Islanders, including families.

There are no speaking parts, as the song will be playing in the commercial.

"People just have to be natural or feel comfortable on camera," Ott-Zucker said.

She has already been combing the islands looking for good faces and visiting fire stations and nail salons to find people who might not come out for a casting call.

"We just want to have a good mix of people," she said.

The open casting call will be on all three islands:

- St. John - 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, at The Market Place, 2nd Floor.

- St. Thomas - 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, at Tutu Park Mall, Center Court.

- St. Croix - 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, at Sunny Isle Shopping Center, Amphitheater.

Anyone cast in the commercial will be paid.

Those who are interested but cannot come to one of the open casting calls can contact Ott-Zucker, and she will help them submit a video for consideration.
