ST. CROIX - Frederiksted residents are reporting that projectiles from a hail of gunfire that rang out Thursday night reportedly struck several buildings in the area and entered at least one apartment.
V.I. Police spokeswoman Melody Rames said Friday that detectives are investigating the incident, which has been classified as first-degree reckless endangerment.
No one was injured, and no one had been arrested by press time.
About 9:15 p.m. Thursday, emergency dispatchers began receiving calls from residents, who reported hearing a large number of gunshots and that a man was standing in the rear of a small black pick-up truck firing the shots, according to Rames.
The next morning, a woman who lives in the area reported to police that she went into her kitchen Friday morning and realized that a projectile entered her apartment and damaged her refrigerator.
Rames said several buildings in the area also were hit by gunfire, according to the police report.
Anyone with information about the gunfire can call detectives at 712-6030, 712-6077 or 911 or call the Crime Stoppers USVI anonymous tip line at 1-800-222-8477.
