ST. CROIX - Police on Tuesday released the identity of a 25-year-old man who was gunned down outside a residence in William's Delight a week ago.
St. Croix Police Chief James Parris confirmed Tuesday that the man killed in the hail of gunfire June 18 was Akil Braffith of Estate Anna's Hope.
Parris said police had not released the name earlier pending confirmation that Braffith's next of kin had been properly notified of his death.
According to police, the call about shots fired in William's Delight came in to 911 emergency dispatchers about 11:51 p.m. June 18. Police said the call reported, and the evidence in the area confirmed, that multiple shots had been fired. The victim, now identified as Braffith, was found laying outside one of the residences in the housing community.
Parris said the crime is still being investigated and police are asking the community, and specifically residents in the William's Delight area, to come forward with whatever information they may have about the fatal shooting.
