Police investigating deadly shooting in Hospital Ground

ST. THOMAS - A man was shot to death Tuesday evening in the Hospital Ground area.
Avery Martin, 27, was unresponsive when police responded to shots fired about 8 p.m., according to V.I. Police spokeswoman Melody Rames. Martin had been shot multiple times, Rames said.
As of presstime Tuesday, no one had been arrested and police had no suspects, according to Rames.
The shooting is the territory's 24th homicide - include one vehicular homicide - this year, and the 12th on St. Thomas.
Martin was transported by ambulance to Schneider Hospital, where medical staff officially pronounced Martin dead.
The territorial medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives are investigating the shooting.
