ST. CROIX - Police are investigating what appears to be a drowning that occurred Tuesday at a residence in Estate Sierra Verde in Cotton Valley.

An 85-year-old man was found unresponsive by his wife in the family pool, according to a statement issued Wednesday by the V.I. Police Department.

Police were notified of the incident just after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The victim's wife told police that after lunch, she left her husband relaxing by the pool and went out, according to police. When she returned, she found him face down in the pool, police said.

Emergency medical technicians, the V.I. Fire Service and V.I. Police officers were on the scene. The victim was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives are following up on the case.
