Police pursing 'active leads' in death of St. John woman

ST. THOMAS - Police still are following up on "several active leads" in the death of 21-year-old Seara Samantha James, St. Thomas-St. John Police Chief Darren Foy said Friday.
Police have not specified a cause of death since the St. John woman's skeletal remains were found in Estate Adrian on St. John on Aug. 1. She was reported missing by her family on Oct. 13, 2011, and was last seen in the Cruz Bay area on St. John the evening of Oct. 11, 2011.
The FBI crime lab returned results of an analysis on DNA samples that confirmed her identity last week, and an autopsy has been completed, according to V.I. Police spokeswoman Melody Rames.
On Tuesday, Foy said detectives were meeting with the V.I. Attorney General's Office, but Foy declined to say whether suspects had been identified in the case.
James last contacted her family Oct. 11, 2011, and she left Castaway's Bar that day at about 5 p.m., according to police. James also was seen by Mongoose Junction, Nature's Nook and by Power Boyd prior to her disappearance, police said.
Foy would not say whether police believed James' actually died in Estate Adrian.
