V.I. to auction properties for unpaid property taxes
The Lt. Governor's Office's Division of Real Property Tax will conduct an auction of properties that are delinquent on their taxes in the St. Thomas-St. John District.
The next auctions for properties that have been delinquent for 10 or more years will take place Feb. 27 and 28 in the courtyard of the V.I. Government Employees Retirement System building on Kronprindsens Gade.
The property auctions will begin at 9 a.m. on each of the scheduled auction days. In the event the auction does not conclude on the first day, it will continue on the second day.
Potential bidders must register by 9 a.m. on the auction day in order to participate. Bidders cannot register in advance of the auction or register once the auction has begun.
Potential bidders also are advised to view the properties in advance of the auction as delinquent properties are sold "as is, where is." A list of the properties can be viewed at www.ltg.gov.vi.
Owners of delinquent properties can either pay their balances in full or enter into an installment arrangement in order to avoid the sale of their properties. Property owners interested in making arrangements can contact the Office of the Tax Collector at 776-8505 on St. Thomas or 776-6737 on St. John.
