ST. CROIX - Rotary Club of St. Croix West has been celebrating the 45th anniversary of its club this week and will wrap up the anniversary this weekend.
Rotary Club of St. Croix West President Lloyd Daniel said the club has maintained 45 years of continued service to the Virgin Islands and also has branched out with service to the world.
He said the actual founding date of the club was Aug. 12, and the club commemorated the milestone with hanging a number of signs in the town this week.
A large sign was hung near the entrance to Frederiksted at Claude O. Markoe School on Emancipation Drive.
Rotarians also hung a sign on the arch outside the Rotary West Community Center in Estate La Grange.
Daniel said the signs, "45 years of making a difference in this community and the world," show the dedication of the club to community service for decades and their hopes to continue.
Tonight, the club will host an Awards and Recognition Dinner at 6 p.m. at the community center.
Daniel said that during the event Paul Harris Fellows awards will be bestowed on contributing Rotarians and on community service minded individuals.
The sole remaining charter member, Michael Simmonds, will be honored, along with past District Gov. Edgar Iles, and past President Etheldred "Cino" Christopher for their legacies and contributions to the club and to Rotary International during the course of their memberships.
