ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas Coastal Zone Management Committee approved two permits Wednesday.
The first was a modification to an existing permit for the Magens Bay Authority to do work at Smith Bay Park, also known as Lindqvist Beach.
The second was a permit for an existing two-story building in Sub Base.
The Magens Bay Authority, which manages Smith Bay Park, plans to add a bathhouse, gate house, botanical garden, two sheds and parking spaces during the project's first phase on the 21-acre beachfront parcel.
The first phase also will include upgrading the property's internal roads.
The second phase includes the construction of a concession stand and restaurant building and the installation of a dumpster.
The Magens Bay Authority requested a modification to its permit to amend its construction schedule to start phase one within one year and start phase two a year after that.
It was unanimously approved by the committee.
The second CZM permit approved unanimously by the committee Wednesday will bring an existing building into compliance with government regulation.
DOPETRI Inc. applied for the permit for a 4,176-square-foot building located in Sub Base. The property was leased to DOPETRI by DPNR for 20 years in 1992. The company must obtain a new permit for the continued use and occupancy of the submerged land property.
According to the permit application, there are no plans to expand the building at this time.
