IDEA grant application available for review
The State Office of Special Education's recent IDEA Part B federal grant application is available for public review in both districts through April 10.
Comments will be accepted for 30 days after the close of the public review period, and may be submitted to the State Director from April 10 through May 10.
A public hearing will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. May 10.
Community members interested in providing testimony can do so at State Special Education Offices in both districts. The hearing will be on St. Thomas, but residents on St. Croix can participate by conference call. Testifiers in need of special accommodations - such as a language interpreter - must provide notice to the State Special Education Office by April 25, and can call 776-5802 on St. Thomas-St. John or 718-7682 on St. Croix so appropriate arrangements can be made.
Copies of the grant application, which contains a tentative state budget, can be obtained from both State Special Education and District Superintendent's offices, as well as at the Office of the Education Commissioner on St. Thomas and St. Croix. A copy also can be found on the department's new website, www.vide.vi.
