St. Croix Agrifest 2014 opens today

ST. CROIX - All roads on St. Croix lead to Agrifest 2014 this weekend.

Thousands of people are expected to throng to the Agriculture and Food Fair of the Virgin Islands during its three-day run at the Rudolph Shulterbrandt Agricultural Complex in Estate Lower Love.

The annual celebration of culture, food and farming features a wide variety of activities, exhibits, food, produce, demonstrations, arts and crafts and family-friendly fun. Activities for children are scattered throughout the fairgrounds.

Gates are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for children.

The theme this year is "Agriculture: We've Always Been Green."

The entertainment schedule includes:


10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. - Opening Ceremonies in the Big Tent, with the St. Croix Educational Complex Marching Band.

12:30-1:30 p.m. - Agrifest Hat Parade in the Big Tent.

12:30-3 p.m. - Heart Attack Band on the East Stage.

12:30-3 p.m. - Ebenezer Methodist Steel Orchestra on the Middle Stage.

1:30-6 p.m. - Grand Quadrille Dance with Stanley & the 10 Sleepless Knights and the St. Croix Heritage Dancers and Flambo Combo Band, in the Big Tent.

3-3:30 p.m. - West End Masqueraders.

3-6 p.m. - Reunited Band on the East Stage.

3-6 p.m. - Tony Romano on the Middle Stage.


9 a.m.-1 p.m. - Caribbean Gospel Singspiration in the Big Tent.

9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. - DJ Myron on the East Stage.

11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. - Junya Krewe on the Middle Stage

2 p.m. - Agrifest Olympics and Mini Rodeo for Youth in the Livestock Ring.

2-6 p.m. - Marsvyn David & the Caribbean Players, Old School Calypso & Latin with Tribute to Sparrow in the Big Tent.

2:30-3 p.m. - WDY Cultural Dancers on the East Stage.

3-6 p.m. - Rising Stars Steel Orchestra on the Middle Stage.

3-6 p.m. - Stylee Band, Road March Champs for 2014, on the East Stage.

4-4:30 p.m. - Guardians of Culture Moko Jumbies on the East Stage.


9-11:30 a.m. - DJ Myron on the East Stage.

10 a.m.-2 p.m. - Groom Squad in the Livestock Ring.

11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. - R & B Connection in the Big Tent.

11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. - Kewli Band 8 on the East Stage

11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. - Jazzy Blue on the Middle Stage

3-6 p.m. - Black Star Reggae Show in the Big Tent.

3-6 p.m. - Crucian Rhythm on the East Stage.

3-6 p.m. Hypa Aktive Krew on the Middle Stage.

Food Demonstrations and Sales At the Edith Matthew Food & Refreshment Pavilion


3 p.m. - Coconut buns and tart by Severin Miller.


8 a.m.-2 p.m. - Entries accepted for the dumb bread competition, with judging scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

2 p.m. - Bush talk on herb and tea by Olasee Davis.

3 p.m. - Banana, spinach and oatmeal smoothies by Evannie Jeremiah.

4 p.m. - Johnnycake by Janett Crump.


11 a.m. - Pumpkin-Coconut Ice Cream and Sorrel Sorbet by Clint Ferris.

3 p.m. - Alcapurria by Sylvia Ventura.
