St. Croix man, 30, charged with raping 14-year-old girl

ST. CROIX - Police have arrested a 30-year-old man on charges that he had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl against her will.
Kalaji Banwaree, of Estate Sion Farm was arrested at 9:33 a.m. Friday on an arrest warrant on the charge of second-degree aggravated rape in connection with the forcible rape of the girl a week ago.
According to police reports, the incident took place after 10 p.m. Oct. 18 at a Sion Farm residence and was reported to police just after 11 p.m. that same night from the nearby Sunny Isle Shopping Center.
Earlier this week, V.I. Police spokeswoman Melody Rames confirmed the incident but said because it involved a young girl, police were not releasing any additional information about the incident or the parties involved.
According to the V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency police blotter, a list of calls logged by emergency dispatchers, authorities were notified of the assault at 11:07 p.m. Oct. 18, and after an initial investigation, the incident was classified as a second-degree aggravated rape.
Criminal Investigation Detectives investigated the incident and executed the arrest warrant Friday morning.
Bail for Banwaree has been set at $75,000, and he is expected to make his initial appearance in Magistrate Court on Monday morning.
