Police on St. Croix arrested a man Wednesday and charged him with contempt of court and child neglect in connection with an incident that occurred on Aug. 8.
Rolando Watley, 29, was arrested just before 9 a.m. and was being held without bail pending further action from the court, according to police.
Police said that on Aug. 8, Watley took his two children, ages 5 and 9, from their mother and drove away without her permission. The mother told police she has full custody of the children.
Officers pursued Watley to the Upper Love area, where Watley got out of the vehicle and took the children into the bush, police said. Using a heat-seeking device, officers later located the children, who were unharmed, alone in the bush, police said.
The case is under investigation by detectives of the V.I. Police Department's Criminal Investigation Bureau.
