Police have released the names of two women whose bodies were found May 28 in an Estate Smithfield home after what police are characterizing as a murder-suicide. The women were 56-year-old Cathy Weikel and 43-year-old Tammy Zolner.
Police were notified of the deaths a few minutes before 11 p.m. by a man who told police that he and one of the deceased females had been involved in a relationship for the last four months, according to V.I. Police spokeswoman Melody Rames.
The man said his girlfriend went to collect some of her belongings from her former girlfriend's home, but she had not returned by 9 p.m. The man went to the former girlfriend's home and was able to look inside and saw the two females unresponsive and called police, Rames said.
Both women suffered gunshot wounds, a firearm was found on the scene, and police said the home was locked and there was no sign of forced entry, Rames said.
Anyone with any information regarding the case can call detectives at 712-6077, 712-6037 or 911 or call the anonymous tip line at Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-8477.
