ST. THOMAS - The V.I. Water and Power Authority reported a power outage for all of St. Thomas and St. John from about 3 to 5:18 p.m. Thursday. The power outage occurred after an expansion joint ruptured on gas turbine Unit 23, according to a statement WAPA issued Thursday.

While crews worked to fix Unit 23, other generators were brought on to restore service to some feeders throughout the district.

This is at least the fourth time recently that Unit 23 has proven faulty, despite its reputation as the "workhorse" generator.
