ST. CROIX - After two full days of parades, the 2013-2014 Crucian Christmas Carnival committee released the winners late Sunday, giving top awards to some crowd favorites.
Stylee Band was announced as the new Road March Champions with their song "Trampin" from their new album "#Epic." The song inspired dancing throughout J'ouvert on Wednesday and was heard continuously on the parade route and at the reviewing stand Friday and Saturday.
Friday, the Children's Parade featured youthful energy with children from schools and community organizations taking to the streets to celebrate their culture. There were brilliant displays of bright colors and creative themes throughout the day. In the end, Ricardo Richards Elementary School won the top prize for best floupe with more than 75 members as they showed how the collective work of bees, symbolic of collective efforts in the community, gets things done. UMB Kids displayed their sweetness and were named best troupe with more than 75 members for their presentation of "Candy Land."
On Saturday, the Adult's Parade featured larger troupes, bigger and brighter costumes. The judges recognized Gentlemen of Jones' "Back in Time" as the best floupe with more than 100 members while top prize for best troupe over 100 went to "Garden of Eden" by Simply Sophisticated.
Other groups were recognized for best moko jumbie, majorettes, steel orchestra and masqueraders.
As the Carnival wrapped up, Committee President Davidson Charlamagne thanked participants for making this year's event successful.
Charlamagne said all of the events for the weeks-long celebration had been well attended with a great turnout for each of the parades.
