ST. CROIX - Police are investigating a first-degree robbery reported late Wednesday night.

V.I. Police spokeswoman Melody Rames said that just before 11 p.m. Wednesday a man visiting from Michigan reported to police that his rental vehicle was taken from him at gunpoint by two men in the Estate White Bay area of Frederiksted.

Rames said the man reported that the robbers used a black sport utility vehicle to block his path on the road where he was driving his silver Ford Fiesta rental vehicle. The victim said at that point an armed man jumped from the SUV and took his vehicle, driving off in the same direction from which he had just come.

The victim said the second man also drove away from the area in the SUV, leaving the visitor to walk to the nearest police station where he reported the crime. He reported the robbery at the Wilbur Francis Police Station in Mars Hill, less than a mile from where he said he was robbed.

Rames said the victim was not physically harmed in the robbery and police are investigating the incident.

Anyone with information can call police at 911 or call the anonymous tip line at Crime Stopper USVI at 1-800-222-8477.
