ST. CROIX - Police are investigating two non-fatal shooting incidents that happened Sunday night.
One man was shot on the lower right side of his body and another man was injured in a separate incident when individuals shot at him from a passing vehicle, according to a statement issued Monday by the V.I. Police Department.
Just before 8 p.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to investigate a shooting in Estate Diamond.
When they arrived at a private residence, they saw that a man had been shot on the lower right side of his body. Forensics technicians retrieved spent shell casings, according to the release.
The police blotter - which is the Police Department's list of incidents and the time they were reported - indicates that dispatchers received calls about a separate incident in Campo Rico about 9:15 p.m. Sunday.
In that incident, an 18-year-old man was injured, but was unclear from the Police Department statement whether the injuries were from gunfire or shattering glass.
The 18-year-old told police that he was driving a vehicle in Campo Rico when a dark-colored vehicle "pulled alongside him and unknown persons fired shots at him," according to the statement.
The victim reported that the passenger window and rear window of his vehicle had been shattered by gunfire.
Police said the victim was injured on his back, right shoulder and left forearm; "however medical personnel will determine if the injuries were caused by the shattering glass or by gunfire," according to the release.
Both cases are being investigated by Criminal Investigation Bureau Detectives.
Anyone with information about the two incidents can call detectives at 712-6077 or 712-6037 or the Crime Stoppers USVI anonymous tip line at 1-800-222-8477.
