Virgin Islands Roman Catholic leaders offered praise of Pope Benedict XVI on Monday in the wake of the 85-year-old pontiff's decision to abdicate because of his declining health.
Bishop Herbert Bevard of the Diocese of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands said, "I think he guided the church through a difficult time in the history of the world. He gave us clear leadership concerning the continuity of church teaching."
