ST. THOMAS - V.I. Police are investigating two unrelated robberies that occurred during the weekend.
Just after 8 p.m. Saturday, two masked men, one carrying a handgun, walked into Nidal Grocery on Crown Mountain Road. The men took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register, a black wallet and a black Samsung mobile phone, according to a prepared statement Wednesday from V.I. Police Department spokeswoman Melody Rames.
The masked men told the two people inside the store to get on the ground, Rames said. The suspects then took the money and other items and left the store on foot.
Rames did not say whether the victims were employees of the store or customers.
Two women also said that they were robbed at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday while sitting outside in Frenchtown, according to the statement. A man approached the women and snatched a handbag before leaving the area on foot, police reported.
Rames did not say where the women were in Frenchtown.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau are investigating both cases. Anyone that has information about the crimes is asked to call detectives at 714-9834 or 715-5522. People also can call 911 or Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-8477, or text "USVI" plus the message to 274637.
