ST. CROIX - Agencies working with the homeless population in the territory will conduct a point-in-time census of the territory's homeless population and are looking for volunteers to help with the count.
The point-in-time count and survey of the homeless population in the territory is scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 26.
The count is mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and is used to justify the need for federal funding for homeless services in the territory, according to a statement released by Catholic Charities, one of the agencies involved in the count.
During the count, volunteers will survey a sample of unsheltered homeless persons through one-on-one interviews to gather critical information to assist in better determining and serving the needs of the homeless.
Anyone interested in volunteering can call Catholic Charities on St. Thomas at 777-8518 or Catholic Charities on St. Croix at 773-0132.
