ST. THOMAS - About a dozen flights were cancelled at King Airport on Thursday because of inclement weather in the southeast United States.
"We had a lot of cancellations today," V.I. Port Authority spokeswoman Monifa Marrero said.
American Airlines, Delta, Jet Blue, United and U.S. Air all had delayed and cancelled flights Thursday.
The bad weather in the states only affected flights into and out of St. Thomas, Marrero said.
"It just affected St. Thomas because St. Croix had only flights coming from Miami and Orlando, and they were not affected by the storm," she said.
The American Airlines flight from Miami to St. Thomas was unaffected, but the New York flight was cancelled.
While one of Jet Blue's Boston flights arrived, the other was canceled Thursday.
U.S. Air's Charlotte flight was canceled.
The Newark and Washington D.C. flights were cancelled by United Airlines.
Delta's New York flight arrived three hours late, and one of the airline's flights to Atlanta departed on time. However, two other Atlanta flights were canceled.
As the wintery weather persists on the mainland, more flights may be affected on St. Thomas today.
"We don't have any indication about tomorrow, we'll check with the airlines first thing in the morning," Marrero said Thursday.
She urged travelers not to contact the airport, but to contact their airline to check on their flight status.
"Things could change, so the best thing to do is contact the airline directly," Marrero said.
