Woman says gunman stole $1,000 purse

ST. CROIX - Police are investigating an armed robbery reported early Sunday evening.

A 27-year-old woman told police that she was walking near Eastern Suburbs when a stranger walked up behind her and threatened her with a handgun. The woman told police that while she was uninjured, the gunman took about $20 in cash, an iPod and her $1,000 designer handbag, according to V.I Police spokeswoman Melody Rames.

The man is described as wearing a black-hooded jacket.

The first-degree robbery was reported at 6:45 p.m.

Rames said criminal investigation Bureau detectives are following up on the case and anyone with information about the incident should call police at 911 or call the confidential tip line at 1-800-222-8477.
