Gilbert Raphael de Gout
Gilbert Raphael de Gout, affectionately known as Raphael to some, and Gil to others, died July 31, 2012, at Grand Concourse Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Bronx, New York.
A memorial service was held at Woodlawn Cemetery and Crematory in New York. De Gout's body was cremated.
The Mass for de Gout will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral, St. Thomas. The Prelude will be at 9 a.m.
De Gout leaves behind Ms. Willie Mae Lewis, his longtime companion of more than 25 years; his sons, Gilbert Raphael de Gout Jr. and John de Gout; and his daughter, Sharon R.Nibbs (Robert).
He is also survived by his brothers, John de Gout (Ritza), Roy de Gout, Kenneth de Gout, Benjamin de Gout, Edward de Gout and Stuart de Gout (Winnika); his sisters, Marie Bass, Naomi de Gout, Ruth Smith (George) and Cynthia Smith; grandchildren, Steve de Gout, Keith Anthony Smith (nephew), Juan Dean de Gout, Robert Nibbs Jr., Micah Nibbs, Shai' Nibbs; great-grandchildren, Devin de Gout, Tyshawn de Gout, Jaylah Joyce de Gout, Jennah Elizabeth de Gout, Keith Nathaniel Smith-Mitchell, Keith Antonio Smith, Terrell Alonzo Smith, Juan Dean de Gout, Jr., Ruth Marie de Gout, Ciarah Brown de Gout, Dajuan de Gout, Juan Damarco de Gout, Shanice de Gout, Star de Gout, Juan Dean de Gout II; many nieces, nephews and other family members; longtime caregiver and friend, Florie "Flo" Smoot, and special Army buddies, Herman Anderson and George; and many family and friends.
DeGout was preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia de Gout (Gutliffe), father, Ebenezer de Gout; daughter, Ruth de Gout; brother, Charles de Gout; sister, Veronica Ferrell; and brother-in-law, Carlos "Charlie" Smith.
