11 senators put pride ahead of wisdom

Immediately after 11 V.I. senators voted down the governor's HOVENSA Fourth Amendment proposal, I e-mailed half a dozen people the same one-liner:
"Looks like pride comes with a steep price."
Among the responses that came back was a famous quote from cartoon character Pogo that says it all: "We have met the enemy and he is us."
Another response came back saying: "Learn to choose the lesser evil."
To summon it all up: The fact that 11 lawmakers weren't able to see beyond their 15 minutes of glory speaks volumes about their shortsightedness.
I rarely praise our governor. His hands-off approach to regulation of energy and his past love affair with Petroleum Coke isn't easily forgotten, but this time he clearly understood what is the lesser of two evils.
It is time for our senators to swallow their pride and revisit the Fourth Amendment - unless, of course, it is too late.
