As always, taxis get the royal treatment

Here we go again, making public space the private domain of the V.I. Royal Taxi.

It is hard enough to find a place to park downtown, yet St. Thomas Administrator Barbara Petersen and Taxi Commissioner Judith Wheatley are taking six spaces here and five spaces there and reserving them for taxicabs.

Remember, these are the same taxicabs that run red lights, park where they want, block traffic, speed and stop anywhere.

Petersen made me laugh when she was quoted in The Daily News on Jan. 25, 2013, saying, "The plan's purpose was to ease congestion and create a better environment for motorists, merchants and taxi drivers."

That was really funny. Why don't we just take away all of the public parking in downtown and give them to these taxis?
